• Loving my Natural Hair

As I approach year four of my complete natural hair, I am learning more and more about what my hair likes and what it doesn't. Now that my hair finally has some weight to it, it has begun to hang instead of stick out and I was very excited about it!

I put a red dye in my hair last summer around July, and I have been letting it do its own thing. I only put dye in my hair once every other year or so as to not alter my curl pattern too much. I have completely stopped using shampoo as well. Did not like the way it made my hair feel, and it has been about 7 or 8 months since any touched my hair. I clarify once a month with a ACV rinse (see my natural hair wash regime post for more information) and co wash every other week with a clarifying conditioner.

I have completely switched over to #teambraidout! I haven' t been able to really get the desired results with twist outs lately no matter how they were done. I normally have about 10-12 braids and I used Curls Crème Brule as well as some Aloe Vera gel. So just about every picture in this post are braid-outs.

I have also mastered the pineapple method. I have enough length for them to fall properly the next morning. I have been attempting to keep my hands out of my hair as to retain more length in my quest for shoulder length curls by the end of the year. Therefore, I have only been twisting my hair once or twice a week. I have begun taking biotin again, and actually plan on sticking with it for a while this time to hopefully strengthen my locks. I have noticed less shedding with my not twisting or braiding my hair every night, and I also do a lot more finger detangling.

I have been experimenting with different hair styles as well. I wanted to step outside of the restrictive twist-out and braid-out box. So I used a curl wand and went to work on this head of mine. I'll try to do a more in depth post as I plan on doing those again soon.

Enjoy!
